Programs and policies subject to change at any time.
Registration: Completing an Enrollment Contract and paying the non-refundable registration fee begins the process. You will be provided additional paperwork that must be filled out and returned before your child can begin attending school. These are forms that are required by law. Please remember to update us if there are any changes in your address, phone number, or place of employment. Your child may not start preschool until all of these forms are completed and returned.
Enrollment Procedures: Shepherd of the Valley is required by licensing to obtain a variety of information and signed consent forms prior to enrollment. Additional information and consent forms may be requested by the school administration. All school necessary forms are provided by the Director. No child may participate in activities until all required information is provided, all required forms are completed, and registration fees are paid. All forms contained in your enrollment packet must be completed and returned prior to your child’s participation in the program. Information obtained for a child’s record shall be kept confidential. The state requires that we have proof of all immunizations for your child along with a signed release that your child is able to participate in a day care program (Child Pre-Admission Health History and Physician’s Health Report).
Hours: Shepherd of the Valley Preschool is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. it is YOUR responsibility to make arrangements for someone else to pick up your child. Please remember that it is extremely upsetting to children to be left after closing.
- Half day children must be picked up by 12:45 p.m. / Toddler at 12:30 p.m.
- Lunch begins promptly at noon.
- Your child is enrolled for a specific schedule. Due to our capacity and COVID-19, children may not switch days nor are there make-up days.
Arrival and Departure: Dropping off and picking up your child is an important and emotional part of your child’s day. Preparing your child for their day at school and reconnecting at the end of the school day are special times. We feel your child is entitled to your undivided attention during these times. Therefore, please do not use your cell phone while dropping off or picking up your child. State law requires that you must sign your child in and out each day. Children must be brought into the school and turned over to a teacher, as required by state law. The teacher is required to make a visual inspection of the child to be certain that the child is healthy and ready to participate in the day’s activities. If someone not listed on your child’s emergency form is picking up the child, you must notify the school in person, in writing, or by phone. Also, please note that the person picking up your child will need to show a photo ID. This is for the protection of your child.
Clothing: Please send your child in comfortable and “self serve” clothing equipped with easy fasteners and elastic waist bands that will help build self-confidence. Our schedule includes activities that are at times messy and clothing may become soiled during our day. Flip-flops, plastic sandals, Crocs, and cowboy boots are not permitted. Please make sure that your child wears appropriate rubber-soled shoes and socks. This is to ensure the safety of the child. All children should have a complete change of clothing at school. Please be sure to label these items. They will be stored in the child’s classroom. Jackets and sweaters are easily misplaced, so be sure to label them with your child’s name.
Meals and Snacks: We ask that the family provide the lunch and snack for their child. Please clearly label your child’s lunch box.
Health: Children are not allowed to attend school if they are ill. Proper care in the initial stages may well shorten the duration of the illness and will protect the health of others. Please keep your child home if he/she has:
- a temperature
- inflammation of the eyes
- nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- a rash of unknown origin
Should your child become ill while at school, you will be notified immediately and asked to arrange for a timely pick-up. It is vitally important to keep emergency forms updated. If your child is exposed to or contracts a contagious disease, please inform the school so that other parents can be alerted.
Please visit our Covid-19 Info page for the latest updates.
Medication: Before any medication can be administered by our staff, the parent must complete a “Parent’s Medicine Consent Form”, the director shall designate which school personnel are to give medication to a student. We require that all medicine be in the original container. All prescription and over-the-counter medication must have the pharmaceutical label specifying the child’s name and prescribed dosage by a physician. Parents must sign the “Parent’s Medicine Consent Form” and submit it, along with the medication in its original container.
The preschool director or trained staff member will document and accept medications and follow the “Caregiver Medicine Check” form. We will only accept the medication if we can answer “Yes” to all the questions on the “Caregiver Medicine Check” form. “Medication” includes prescribed as well as over-the-counter medicines. Parents must sign the liability release section of the medication form for over-the-counter medicines. We will not dispense medication without a doctor’s signature.
